It all began with an idea:

organise something new & EXCITING for the commodities community that adds a twist to the usual industry events.

By combining our passion for commodities, our love of the water and a small pinch of craziness, launching a cold-water swimming club felt like the obvious thing to do.

The Commodities Swimming Club brings together professionals who are ready to embrace a new challenge, support a healthy and active lifestyle, and build genuine business relationships in a relaxed and informal environment. No conference rooms, no presentations and no formal dress code. Just open water, shared energy and great conversations!

And there could hardly be a better setting. With the magnificent Lac Leman as our backdrop, every swim offers a chance to step away from the working day, reconnect with nature, and share a memorable experience with others from across the industry.

What began as an unconventional idea has grown into a thriving community of more than one hundred professionals working across commodities, energy, agriculture, metals, and shipping.

Whether you are an experienced open-water swimmer or simply curious about trying something different, the Commodities Swimming Club offers a welcoming way to meet, swim, and connect.

Meet the Team

  • Mathilde de Mareuil

    co-founder

    Mathilde is the CEO of the headhunting company Shipping & Trading Network, active in all commodities trading roles - both physical and derivatives - in oil & gas, metals, and grains including roles in banking and finance.

    She is also Vice President at WISTA Switzerland, an organisation supporting women in the industry.

    Mathilde is the founder of CommodityThursdays, the regular networking drinks in Geneva, Dubai, Singapore, Miami, and Paris.

    Mathilde is a regular speaker at conferences where she discusses  talent acquisition/retention, gender equality and how to attract the best talent.

    Mathilde has been ice water swimming for years and regularly participates in international swimming competitions. She is passionate about the benefits of ice water swimming for the mind and body and that’s why she co-founded the club with Alessandro to share the passion with the commodities trading community.

  • Alessandro Sanos

    co-founder

    Alessandro Sanos leads the global revenue and Go-to-Market strategy function for the Commodities, Energy, and Shipping business at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), and serves as Managing Director for LSEG in Geneva. His work centres on helping market participants extract value from market intelligence, analytics, and data. Prior to joining LSEG, he worked at PwC in Greece, covering the shipping and energy sectors, and at JPMorgan Chase in the United Kingdom.

    He speaks regularly at international industry events and contributes to leading financial publications on topics at the intersection of data, technology, and market trends.

    Alessandro is a Faculty Member at the University of Geneva. His course, Data, Technology, and Innovation, empowers industry executives and future leaders to develop and implement digital innovation strategies. He also holds several advisory positions, serves on the Executive Committees of the Geneva Energy Forum and GARP Switzerland, and is Emeritus Chapter Head of the CAIA Association in Switzerland.
