FAQs

How can I join the club?

The Commodities Swimming Club is a closed networking group for professionals working in commodities, energy or shipping firms. Our members include traders, quants, analysts, brokers, charterers and risk professionals. You can register your interest to join here and we will come back to you to confirm if you qualify.

Who can Join?

At this stage, we are exclusively accepting professionals working in commodity or energy trading firms. Professionals working for companies offering ancillary services such as consulting, insurance, legal, and similar organisations do not currently qualify.

can I JUST SHOW UP for a swim?

We trust you understand that the Commodities Swimming Club is a closed business networking group. Candidates registering their interest to join the club are not automatically admitted, so please do not show up if your membership has not been confirmed. Each application to join is individually screened, and we aim to coming back within 48 hours.

Where do we swim and what is the schedule?

We meet regularly throughout the year, typically during the lunch break at 12:30. We jump in the water by 12:40, have lunch at 13:00, and we then all head back to work at 13:30. This is the best lunch break in town!

Do I need to be an experienced swimmer?

You should be a competent and confident swimmer, but you do not need to be an experienced cold-water swimmer. Many members joined having never swum in cold water before. If you are new to it, our First-Time Swimmers page is a good place to start.

Which other activities do you organise?

Our range of activities is varied: night swims, Halloween events, fondue dinners, and much more!

Are there any costs involved?

At this stage there is no membership fee. The only costs you may decide to incur is the seasonal subscription to the changing room, and your lunch should you wish to stay for lunch with the crew before we go back to work at 13:30

What should I bring?

Your swimming costume, a towel, warm clothes that are easy to put on afterwards, and a hot drink. In colder months, many members also use a warm hat, neoprene gloves and socks.

ARE you really sure about the benefits of cold water swimming?

Please do not take our word for granted and do take the time to do your research as we may be biased. To start, you may find this blog and this BBC video useful.
Should you decide to give it a try, something that you will notice is the great sense of community. Nothing brings like-minded people together as facing a new challenge and sharing the experience as a group. It is a great way to make new friends!

Are there any risks ?

As with any sporting activity, there are some risks involved with cold water swimming. By attending these unsupervised swimming and networking sessions, participants recognise that swimming may involve certain risks and that neither the organisers, nor their respective employers, shall be held responsible for any risk involved. Participants waive any claims they, or their relatives, may have for any expense, loss, damage, injury, or death linked to these swimming and networking sessions.

can I recommend a friEND?

Of course. Please tell them to register their interest here and we will get back to them.
